About Us

Mongolia has set aside 17.4 percent of its land, covering a vast area of 27.2 million hectares, to create a network of 90 state-protected regions. Within this allocation, 16 areas, accounting for 45.6%, are designated as strictly protected zones, 29 areas (43.7%) as national conservation parks, 30 areas (10.2%) as nature reserves, and 14 regions (0.48%) for national monuments. The Small Gobi Strictly Protected Area was established by Parliament Resolution No. 43 of 1996 in order to protect the natural complex and unique geographical features of Mongolia's authentic Gobi. In 2006, the SMALL GOBI Strictly Protected Area (SGSPA) protection administration was subsequently established. This protected land, divided into two parts "A" and "B," is situated within the territories of 4 sums in two provinces covers a total area of 1.8 million hectares. It represents 2 distinct ecological zones, Galby and Borzong Gobi along with their extensive surrounding satellite areas.
